Keeping yourself in fashion is easy when all your favourite looks are found in one place! Chatswood Chase hosted another fabulous night of fashion to showcase the new Autumn Winter fashion options, and Shannon Johnson went along.
Chatswood Chase certainly knows how to put an event with style! Their latest Autumn Winter Fashion show was hosted by inimitable musical star Rhonda Burchmore and David Jones’ events manager Susie Smither, who both put their most fashionable foot forward wearing Carla Zampatti. The lucky guests mingled before gathering to gasp at the amazing new collections on models sashaying down the runway. Here’s everything you need to know to stay on trend for the upcoming season.

ENTERTAINER RHONDA BURCHMORE AND DAVID JONES’ SUSIE SMITHER HOSTED

The parade featured work from some of Australia’s favourite designers, including Carla Zampatti, Kookai, Sass and Bide, Marcs, David Lawrence, Gorman and Alannah Hill. With so much talent on show, it was a pleasure to gaze out at the cavalcade of colours and identify all the new looks, tones and trends you need to know for the new season. Our picks are:
  • Big, Bold Stripes
  • Autumnal Tones
  • Head-Turning Textures
  • Work-wear Styles
  • Seasonal Must-Have: The Classic Mac
  • Special Occasion Styles

Big, Bold Stripes

The classic stripe pattern will never go out of style, but this season’s variation is the standout bold stripe. The more prominent line gives your look more drama and ads more contrast to your outfit. Choose a monochrome for a classic colour combination and a vertical stripe for a more flattering feel. An up-and-down line encourages the eye to travel up adn own the body and emphasises your length rather than width.

Autumnal Colours

As the seasons change, your skin tone and complexion often change in subtle ways as well. Flatter your face and match autumn’s mood by puttign away your bright florals and block primary colours – opt for clothes in warmer tones like earthy browns, dark reds and muted greens.

Head-Turning Textures

Mixing and matching fabrics in different textures is an easy way to freshen your look while staying true to your tried-and-tested style. Choosing your usual cut in a new texture like faux fur, sequins or feathers can revamp your whole look. Sass and Bide were a standout on the catwalk with their combination of leather and sequins that can take you from day to night in a snap.

Work-wear styles

David Lawrence recently opened a new popup shop at Chatswood, and their mix-and-match workwear was a welcome addition to the show. Practical but classic coats were counterpointed by pops of patterned accessories like scarves, while their elegantly-cut pants come in neutral and autumnal tones which makes them easy to match with your existing wardrobe pieces. Marcs also showed off their new workwear collection, coming to the party with crisp lines in jackets and skirts in eye-popping colour combinations that will spell success in the workplace.

This season’s “must-have”: The trans-seasonal Mac

As the show went on, it became clear that many labels this season have the same “must-have” item in their collections! The time-honoured Mackintosh raincoat, fondly known as the “Mac” featured in numerous shows, including Kookai and was seen as no less than three options from Carla Zampatti, including timeless cream and a statement scarlet. The Mac is a good investment for anyone looking to update their Autumn-Winter wardrobe, as it immediately updates any outfit and travels well between work and play. Not to mention it’s a comfortable and warm way to still look stylish when winter really hits!
