I know a lot of people find it really challenging when they see models on the catwalk wearing quite ‘out there’ and bold pieces and wonder how on earth they could convert it to their closet and wear it as an every day outfit.
To make it easy I have taken 3 key 2017 trends and adapted to something you can wear and have in your closet.
I really hope you have fun creating these new looks, because that’s what fashion is about, enjoying colour and fabrics and really embracing and extending you own individual style.
Here are my top 3 Key Trends for converting catwalk fashion for this Autumn/ Winter 2017 to your closet.
1. Velvet
The first trend I want to bring your attention to is, Velvet. Velvet is a very soft luxurious fabric. You may have already noticed quite a bit of velvet hitting the shops this season. Velvet has made a huge come back and in Autumn/Winter 2017 is going.. wait for it.. Velvet is going BOLD! On the catwalk we have seen colours like canary yellow and bright pinks. Don’t be put off by these bright colours there are always ways to tone down the trend and to add it to your closet.
FEELING INSPIRED?
If you’re feeling really inspired and you want to fully embrace the trend go for something that is really cute like these Wittner flats which are available in 5 colours. They create a bold statement and would look great with some skinny frayed hem jeans. I really like the idea of adding something luxurious to something distressed and having that huge contrast.
These cute shoes from Wittner are available in 5 colours!
KEEPING IT SUBTLE?
If you would rather keep it more subtle, go for something like this. This gorgeous lace/velvet cami is a bargain for $75. I think it is right on trend. You can dress it up or dress it down, it’s in a black colour so it’s going to go with everything.
Another option to keep it more subtle, add the new trend by buying a new accessory for your wardrobe.
It’s a safer option and especially if you keep it a neutral it’s an easier option.
This handbag is great for those girl nights out.

2. Pleats
The second trend I want to mention is Pleats. Pleats are another trend that has been seen prior to this season and is getting carried forward in abundance. Dresses, skirts, tops, shorts, sleeves, on collars, shoes it is literally everywhere!
FEELING INSPIRED?
If you’re feeling really inspired, this is a great skirt from ASOS. It’s only $75 and I think it would look great with a knitted black top. It’s such a bold skirt so you would really need to keep the top quite plain so it doesn’t over power the skirt.
KEEPING IT SUBTLE?
Keep it neutral and stick to a style that suits your body shape. This top would look great paired with some black skinny jeans or cigarette pants. Because the top is quite floaty and volumous you really need to keep the bottoms quite fitted to make it work.

3. Embroidery
The third and last trend I want to bring your attention to is Embroidery. I love embroidery, I’m a huge fan because it’s a way to add colour and texture, and to embrace you individual style in the fashion you are wearing. Embroidery was more common in 2015 and on Spring runways however embroidery and embellishments are still a vital part of the Autumn/Winter fashion trend.
FEELING INSPIRED?
This ultra cool jacket is perfect for those who love embroidery and embellishments and want to fully embrace the trend.
KEEP IT SUBTLE?
If you wanted to keep it more subtle why not try this gorgeous transeasonal skirt which is right on trend with the embroidered hem and pair it with tan booties.
