Winning The Interview With Style

So you’ve done it, you have scored the interview for the perfect job. Now’s the time to dress to impress!

There is no denying it, whether you like it or not, what you wear to the interview plays a major part in how you are perceived. I’m not saying that you have to wear a designer suit or be professionally styled. What I am saying is that if you look neat and tidy then you convey a message that you’ve got your act together.

The whole process can be a very daunting experience, especially if you have been out of the workforce or in the same job for a number of years. The best way to overcome your fear is to be extremely prepared and confident.

Feeling confident and looking good go hand in hand. If you don’t already own a professional outfit that makes you look and feel fabulous, now’s the time to go shopping.

There are 5 key steps to have in mind when shopping for your perfect outfit;

1. The fit- It must fit perfectly

The easiest way to look good for an interview is to have well fitting clothes. I can’t stress how important this is.

Know that your fit is more than just your size. Clothing companies use average measurements to determine sizing and fit to try to cater to many people. Look at how the clothes you try on make your body look, and be flexible when it comes to size. In one store you may be a medium, but in another you may be a small.

2. Keep colours neutral

The interview is not the time to experiment with the latest trendy colours, keep the colours neutral ie, if you’re opting for a suit choose black, navy, or charcoal. Lighten up the suit with a white or light coloured blouse underneath your jacket.

Stay away from bold prints or crazy colours.

3. Keep the style simple yet chic

Regardless of your thoughts on the matter, you are being judged as soon as you walk through the door for a job interview. Stick to simple styles. If you are torn on wearing or not wearing something always opt for the more conservative option.

4. Accessories are a must

Don’t forget to accessorise. Accessories are a great way to show interest and add a touch of your personal style.

5. Keep shoes classic

Go conservative when it comes to shoes- Closed toed, low rising pumps or flats are the best choice for shoes.

If you stick to these 5 tips then you really cant go wrong.
